Why is it important for many religious leaders to learn the original languages of the Bible? Is it necessary for the pastor to know the different languages?
A different language of the Bible deals not only of the languages itself but somehow, it gives a beam of light about people, culture and traditions of its country. Somehow it reveals more understanding about their faith and how God worked in their lives. It is important for many religious leaders to learn the original languages of the Bible aside from informational purposes, is for firmer foundation of faith which is very significant. Knowing the history of the Bible including its different languages will make someone believe more on what he believed in. It will fire out their faith knowing that there is one God in spite of differences such as language. As religious leader, their faith must be visible to draw people to God wherein growth is more attainable.
It is not necessary for a pastor to know the different languages of the Bible in a practical sense. It does not help that much in doing his duties and responsibilities in and outside of the church; administrative, as a preacher, teaching and counseling or even in soul winning. Ministries in order to grow do not require the knowledge of those languages. It might be an advantage for a pastor if he is knowledgeable regarding this matter. It can be used in some given situation; inclusion of it in a specific topic or to answer questions from curious mind.
What important is a pastor understands what is written in the Bible. He can interpret it with the divine intervention of the Holy Spirit. He can declare it to the people and become a medium of God’s revelation. He must interpret the Scripture in a communicable way the recipients can understand. As long as his leadership is Bible-based and also written in his life as a living testimony of God’s word, I think he can be what we called “Church Minister”.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
