Are any of the characteristics of the liberal scholars’ approach to the Bible valid? Explain.
It was really a shocking statement from liberal approach of the Bible. Nothing from their emphases is valid. We cannot associate science to spiritual matters. Science is trying to give an explanation about everything according to the knowledge of man. Bible is about God and human thinking alone will never be enough for the knowledge of God. The origin of man according to science opposes what Bible says so how can we entrust the Holiness of the Bible to scientific outlook. Even though they recognized the person of Jesus as revealer but if they are telling that it has no direct spiritual meaning and not authoritative, still it is invalid. Giving more important to the religious experiences rather than the life and teaching of Jesus Christ as authoritative is not acceptable. Jesus’ actions and words are in the highest authority which made the Word of God authoritative. They did not see the special and divine revelation of God instead stating that Bible was just a record of Israel’s religious development as well as the histories in the Scripture. They only see the work of man and not the work of God for a nation to prosper. They credit everything to humanity instead to the powerful hand of God. The shedding of blood of Jesus Christ is not just a ritual and means nothing for our sinfulness. Jesus died on the cross with accordance to God’s will and the purpose of it took its place from their time and will take its place now and forever. The life and death of Jesus is very significant. God disclosed Himself through the history and His intervention caused the revelation of truth to the world. And last, Jesus was the founder of Christianity. Apostle Paul and the rest knew that reality so why liberals are like they know more about it than the people who had been eyewitnesses of the Lord Jesus Christ.
